Last night at our POSH meeting, I was sharing how I can't believe how full I am getting since starting my healthy eating. I NEVER in my wildest dreams would have thought that veggies and a SMALL portion of meat would fill me up. I honestly had to force myself to eat my snack yesterday (since we are eating 3 meals and 2 snacks). With all the eating I did before, I rarely felt full for more than 20 minutes, but I realized that it's because in the past I always waited till I was over hungry than grabbed the "quick" unhealthy foods (granola bars, chips, cookies) which only left you full for short periods (and set you up for a blood sugar crash later), while these new healthy foods are carrying me through a lot longer (and not giving me that "crash"). I am NOT a cook (just ask my husband and kids!), but I must admit, this week I have been experimenting (even made homemade salad dressing!) and have been really liking it. While it's nothing fancy (cause I like things quick and simple), it looked and tasted great and was so easy to make. I found pre washing my veggies right after buying them made a HUGE difference, since it was handy and ready I always enjoyed adding them to my meals. I also found pre cooking a bunch of chicken for the week helped (the one day I forgot to pre cook any meat so my lunch at work was a salad with almonds). I even took my snack with me to my hair appointment to make sure I didn't miss it as I find in the past if I'd go too long without eating I would binge when I got home. While I am full, it's not a BAD full. This is the first time in years that I haven't had my daily "bloating" and "IBS" issues. I honestly have lived with it so long, that I forgot what it was like to feel good, and I'll tell you, I welcome this feeling good back with open arms as it's feeling pretty amazing! It's amazing how we go through life not knowing how good it really can feel to be healthy, as we're too use to feeling unhealthy. While I have a LONG way to go and many more symptoms to clear up, this sure is a fabulous step for me and motivation. I also was pretty proud of myself this week as 2 times my hubby offered to take me out for lunch (remember, I am a HUGE fan of eating out - so much so my in laws bought me a magnet years ago that joked about eating out so much) and I declined both times! This is a HUGE step for me! Not gonna lie, when he showed up with take out for him, my stomach craved it, but my body sure didn't miss feeling horrible like it would after consuming it! I'm really paying more attention to how my body feels with certain foods and while I did have 2 slips this week, (muffin and rice krispie square since my son asked me to make some for school, and I just couldn't resist them any longer), I had a LOT more accomplishments! I Must say I am pretty proud of myself as I have come a LONG way and I have so much support to help me (especially a "partner in crime" who has been on this journey with me for several years now - thanks for ALWAYS keeping me laughing and motivated "L" ;) .
UPDATE: I wrote this post last night for today's blog, but wanted to add a couple updates:
1. I woke up this am feeling horrible (acidic stomach, nauseated, almost like I was going to get the flu), I could not for the life of me figure out what was wrong as I ate so well yesterday (and I was PRAYING it was not the flu as I can NOT be getting the flu right now!). After chatting with a couple people, it dawned on me. Here while I THOUGHT I was making an amazing choice by having a salad from a particular take out place last night (even took the precautions of bringing it home to add my own salad dressing and meat so it would be "healthy"), it turns out I was NOT making a healthy choice. When ever I ate at this place in the past, I always felt awful after (to the point of being in the washroom several times), I always assumed it was the bread or meat wasn't agreeing with my body. Well....it wasn't just that, it appears my HEALTHY CHOICE was what was making me sick :/ I'm not sure if they use stuff on the veggies to keep them looking fresh for so long or what it could be, but what ever it was made me feel horrible! Maybe I am extra sensitive now from eating healthy all week, but all I do know is I wont be making that choice again when my family decides to splurge on a meal out!
2. I was OVER THE MOON to find out at my Bi-Weekly Body Comp at Affinity today that not only is my Blood Pressure down BUT I am down 6.5 pds since last week (and that's with NO exercise what so ever in my daily routine yet)! While I knew I was down in "bloating", I had no idea I was down in weight - should have known when I had to keep hiking my pants up all day yesterday. While my goal was HEALTH not weight loss, it sure is inspiring me to stick with it (especially since I lost that much, yet got to eat so much ...healthy food!).
Feel free to look under the "FOOD" tab on my website to see all my new creations I have been eating (the top part is ones I made on past health paths, the bottom half is now). I plan to add more as I make them.
