My "Creative side" came out this am while deciding what to make for breakfast. I decided to have a little fun and "treat myself" to a "post Valentine's breakfast" :) I usually do not like to cook, but my creative side is starting to come out again and I am having fun making my meals look a little more interesting - when it's presented nice, I find I take more time to slow down and appreciate it, rather than the "hockey night's" of stuffing it all in before we have to head out the door. For someone who use to LIVE on Ketchup, I am finding lately I don't need it (my inlaws always tease me when I come to their house as they've never seen someone who eats so much of it!), the chives added enough flavour to the meal and I savoured every bite of it. We can turn a simple meal into "fun one" in minutes.
Last night I was blessed to be able to spend my Valentine's/Anniversary with two special ladies (since all our guys were at hockey - don't worry, we are celebrating our Anniversary somehwere VERY special in a few days so my hubby is not in trouble for choosing hockey :D !!!!). We enjoyed laughter and tears at the movies watching "The Choice" (WARNING - take lots of kleenex!!!). Our family LOVES going to movies and we always stock up on the "treats" there. Before it would have been a Large Popcorn with layered butter shared between my husband and I, along with a pop and chocolate treat. I knew this time I would have to "make changes" so I tailored my day's meals to allow for it. BUT I almost fell over when I did my "pre planning" and found out POPCORN ALONE (NO BUTTER) was 34 pts for a large :O !!!! OMGosh, my mind doesn't even want to think of how many points the WHOLE COMBO we get would be plus several pumps of butter :O !!!!! I went back and fourth several times on what I should get and decided since it was a special occasion (Valentine's and my Anniversary) I was going to "splurge" and have butter on my popcorn BUT I was going to tell them ONE "pump" only AND I was going to only get a small. I would "skip the treat" (since my beautiful friend always makes me AMAZING Gingerbread hearts for Valentines - which I made sure I saved points for) and I brought a water in my purse so I didn't order a pop. TBH I thought I would feel like I was "missing out" on all the other "goodies", but I didn't and the small was still VERY satisfying (infact I didn't even eat it all).
So often we go to things and our "eye's take over". We upsize and add on things we really don't need. BUT when you "pre plan" what you are going to have before you go, suddenly YOU ARE IN CONTROL, and it sure feels good. It's not easy, but it is so worth it in the end - I can only imagine how many points/calories I saved myself!
Little things add up to HUGE changes, take it one step at a time :)
