WOW did it ever feel good to "unplug" for a bit! Well it helped even more that my "unplugging" included sitting on a beach in Jamaica for 9 days to celebrate our 17th Anniversary and My hubby's 50th Birthday! I even braved the waves and my fears and went snorkeling which I NEVER would have done in the past - was great up until the last 10-15 minutes of the trip when the sea sickness kicked in, but facing my fears and seeing all the cool fish was worth it all. I went on this trip saying I was going to "behave" and eat perfect and not drink those yummy frosty drinks, but as soon as we got to the resort after a 1 1/2 hr wait in the crowded HOT airport, that all went out the window! While I was more "cautious" of what I ate compared to other trips (skipping the breads and treats for breakfast with my eggs, snacking on salads most of the lunches....other than a few hamburger days as I LOVED the waiter there and was tired of eating the same old thing, and than eating normal at supper - potatoes and all - of course I had to try the desserts AND I couldn't resist a few pina colada's, Dirty Banana's and Blue Hawaiians each day - in the past my main meal would consist of breads, pastas and desserts - and boy did I notice a HUGE difference by not eating breads with my eggs in the am, my husband also noticed a difference in how I was feeling, as well I also noticed how much more energy I had on our daily walks around the resort), I did come home to find out I gained 6.5 pds - which I knew would be likely considering my ankles were GONE due to so much water retention (not sure why, but every time I go to the Caribbean or in the ocean I get a rash and my ankles/feet swell like balloons - I'm curious to see my weight now that I can see my ankles again!). After the initial "guilt" and "defending myself" for the gain, I am now good with it as it was a special getaway and I got right back on track once we got home (Yvonne, Nicole, Heather and Helen at Affinity were HUGE in helping me to see beyond the guilt as well at my Weigh In - after all "it's not about judgement" as they keep reminding me - which I've realized is a HUGE layer of "onion" I need to still clear away - just when you think you are cleared of it, it pops up again).
While I "unplugged" These last two weeks, I enjoyed reading and mediating with Deepak on the beach (not in person, through his meditations that I did a year ago), and it reminded me how important it is to make this a part of my daily life when I got home as I remembered how good I felt last year after doing them. This is a goal I continue to strive and reach, which luck would have it when I got home I also had an email from a friend who said she is hosting meditation nights again, so I am taking this as my sign to get out to them!. "unplugging" also made me realize how important it is to "unplug" once in awhile. Everyone knows how much I LOVE my "facebook time", but I am now realizing how important it is to make MORE time "unplugged" and spending more of that time in meditation, relaxation and in a nice hot bath.
Tomorrow marks the first day of my "parasite" cleanse. While I am going to miss my "fruit", I am looking forward to seeing the results of doing it (hoping ALL the symptoms on the quiz I took disappear - it's amazing how many things you realize you have been suffering with all these years when you sit down and do these). Spent the day cleaning up my veggies for the week (I am noticing I am eating a LOT more veggies now that I have been sticking to cleaning them as soon as we buy them - and my composter is a lot lighter!
One thing I have to note, is my nutritionist recommended that I watch "Vegucated" on Netflix - A MUST SEE - I literally broke down in tears - REALLY gets you thinking! After this, I stumbled upon two other movies that my hubby and I enjoyed watching together called "Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead" (and part 2 of it) MUST SEE MOVIES!!!! It was funny as I was watching it, he was working on the computer and I could see him look up every so often. Next thing I knew he was turning the tv up and was right into it. When I got back from grabbing the wash, I noticed he found and had started playing part 2! It inspired us so much that we both said we would like to do a juice cleanse together (and that's a shock as my husband was NOT into this stuff before - you HAVE to watch these movies!). I got my juicer out of storage and dusted it off - looking forward to trying it. We both said how cool it would be to have a "Juice Bar" in our town, we still get to eat out like we love to do, yet you can be eating healthy - Crossing my fingers that one day someone opens one - we as a community could all get healthier together
Below are some pics of our trip (couldn't post all 2000 !!!). To see full view just click on the picture.
